The pope is reiterating a long held Catholic dogma that the Bible is not the only Word of God, but so is Sacred Tradition. In stating this, the Catholic Church can add to the Word of God whenever they want, since they believe Tradition is equal to the Bible. Dogma like the Immaculate Conception and the Immaculate Assumption are not in the bible. However the church says it is part of the Word of God since it remains in Sacred Tradition and it was also proclaimed from the “seat of Peter.” This is a dangerous theology. What else will be added to the ‘Word’ in the future? Because of this theology the Roman Catholic Church says they are the only church on earth that can interpret the scriptures. Let us not forget the Bereans who were praised for not believing even what the apostles told them, not until they read the scriptures and searched them thoroughly. We are told Not to follow traditions of men like the pharisees, but to hold fast to the Word and be born again. Read the following article from Catholic Culture news:
Word of God lives on in Church tradition, Pope reminds Biblical Commission
In a message to the Pontifical Biblical Commission, Pope Benedict XVI has observed that “the Word of God is not confined to writing,” but has “continued to be announced and interpreted by the living tradition of the Church.”
While Revelation “ended with the death of the last apostle,” the Pope said, the Word of God is not “an inert matter” but rather the “life force” of the Church. Tradition, passed on from the apostles, “advances with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, and grows through reflection and study on the part of believers,” he said.
For that reason, the Pope stressed in his message, it is important to study and understand the role of inspiration in the Scriptures—which was the topic of this week’s meeting of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. The Pope concluded that it is critical to interpret Scripture according to its proper nature, “and inspiration and truth are constituent characteristics of that nature.”
